Rev. Trayce L. Stewart
Long before Trayce was born, her family was active in the life of Bethany Christian Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Since 1959 her family has been attending and serving at Bethany in a variety of positions. Her grandmother was the first and was followed by her late great grandmother, her late grandfather and mother. Trayce also has a host of aunts and uncles who also grew up at Bethany and accepted Christ here. Like many of her friends, she grew up singing in the children’s choir and participating in the holiday pageants and children’s programs of the church. As she grew older, she turned her focus to her academics and sports. Since the seventh grade Trayce has been participating in organized sports including cross country, track and field and basketball. She has served as team captain and received conference honors over her tenure as an athlete.
After graduating from The Euclid High School in 2002, Trayce traveled to western Pennsylvania where she attended Slippery Rock University (SRU) for two years. The summer after her first Trayce was baptized at her home congregation and life has never been the same since then. Returning to SRU that next semester Trayce felt God calling her to a new place; and after much debate and prayer, she returned home with no clear plans of what the future held for her. It was during this period that Dr. R.E. Hedgeman took Trayce under her wing and introduced her to service. Trayce became active in the Revelation Multi-Media Ministry, the Disciple Women’s Fellowship, the Young Adult Fellowship and assisted in the church office extensively. It was during this time that she became to explore and finally expressed a called to ministry. After being nudged to return to school, Trayce enrolled in Hiram College and in December 2007 completed a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in with a focus in early childhood education. In August of 2008 Trayce again left Cleveland and journeyed to Indianapolis, Indiana where she enrolled at Christian Theological Seminary. In May of 2011 Trayce graduated with her Master of Divinity degree and was ordained by the Christian Church in Ohio on August 14, 2011.
Trayce has been blessed to serve on several denominational and ecumenical boards including the STEP Lead Team, the Young Adult Commission of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Council on Ecumenical Student Christian Ministry, the Executive Committee of the World Student Christian Fellowship and several others. Trayce has also served as co-director of the Bethany Summer Enrichment Program and Young Warriors and most presently as an associate minister. Trayce has served Hiram Christian Church, New Light Christian Church, Augusta Christian Church and New Song Community Church in a variety of capacities. Currently she is serving the Christian Church in Ohio as a New Church Planter and New Wineskins Project Coordinator while also serving as interim pastor at Bethany Christian Church in Columbus, Ohio.
At the 2013 General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Trayce was awarded the Fred Craddock Award for Excellence in Preaching. For a sample sermon from our pastor click here or to find her on Facebook click here.
